Two years ago, the children were very excited when Mrs Baron first told them about their Circle Meetings in assembly. Our Circle Meetings are mixed age groups which are led by Year 6 and facilitated by school staff. They provide an opportunity for everyone to share in decision making and to have their voice heard. Over the last week the Year 6 children have received leadership training to support them in this role.
Circle Meetings start with a warm-up activity before opening a discussion on an aspect of school life. Circle Meetings give children a chance to share their views about what they like about our school and how we could make it even better. Minutes of the meetings are taken by the Year 6 children and they feed the outcomes of the discussions back to their class which in turn will be taken to Mrs Baron and the Senior Leadership Team so that the children’s views can be used to shape future changes in our school.
The children thoroughly enjoyed participating in their very first Circle Meeting for 2014-2015. Their first discussion involved choosing their name for their group and playing getting to know you games!
At our first Circle Meeting of 2015-2016, the Circle Leaders told the children about Mitzvah Day and Children in Need. Each Circle brainstormed ideas for activities we could do for Mitzvah Day.
Prior to our second Circle Meeting, the Year 4 children created our new playground rules: "The Etz Chaim Give Me Five Rules." They then shared these with all the children during the second Circle meeting. The Rules are:
1. We are gentle, kind and friendly.
2. We are sensible on the equipment and give each other time and space.
3. We look after our playground and all the equipment in it.
4. We take turns and encourage each other.
5. We have fun and enjoy our breaks!
They are all looking forward to the next meeting!
