Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

 Reception

Hello and welcome to Reception!

Welcome to Reception

My name is Miss Genn, and I am very excited to be the Reception teacher at Etz Chaim.  I will be working closely with Mrs Talisman who will be teaching Jewish Studies, Mrs Meyer the Ivrit teacher as well as Mrs Grant and Mrs Bloom the Foundation Stage Practitioners.

Throughout the year the children will be given the opportunity to learn through play in a safe and supportive environment. All children learn in different ways and it is important to involve their interests in all activities. The children are given choices and have free flow between the indoor classroom and the outside area. Observations will be taken of the children in each area of learning to plan and develop meaningful activities. The activities will be fun, interactive and engaging to match the abilities and interests of the children so they can reach their full potential.

The children will begin learning phonics through the Read Write Inc scheme and will be able to consolidate their learning within the activities set up in the classroom. The children will be developing their mathematical skills in number, problem solving, shape, space and measuring.  There will be lots of hands on learning both inside the classroom and in the outdoor area for both mathematics and phonics.

Mrs Talisman is looking forward to teaching Jewish Studies this year. The children will be learning all about the Chagim and Jewish life. They will also be working their way through the Aleph Bet, which will lead to our fabulous Aleph Bet party at the end of the year.

Please remember to label your child's uniform including hat, coat, shoes and kippot. The children will also need a full PE kit in the school's drawstring PE bag which must also be labelled.  The children will visit the school library twice a week where they can borrow books.

Looking forward to the exciting year ahead.
