Hello and welcome to Year 3!

Year 3

Hello and welcome to Year 3!

My name is Miss Samuel and I have the privilege of being your child’s class teacher for 2016/17. I am joined by Miss Coren, our Jewish Studies teacher; Mrs Hutchinson, our PPA teacher; as well as Mrs Rinkoff; Mrs Grant and Miss Joseph, our fantastic teaching assistants.

Year 3 marks the beginning of Key Stage 2 and will continue to deepen children’s knowledge and understanding. They will progress as independent and collaborative learners through a rich and varied curriculum, filled with creative experiences to inspire children’s curious minds. Children will be encouraged to enquire and reason thoughtfully, whilst maintaining respect for one another.

There are weekly guided reading sessions where we will cover a wide variety of texts, which will aid their ability to infer and deduce. In addition, your child will have reading books and the opportunity to change these twice a week. Please ensure that you sign and date your child’s reading record book each time you have read with them. We also have the opportunity to visit the school library once a week, where children are able to take a book home and either return or renew their book during the next session.

Magical Maths will be taking place alongside our regular guided Maths sessions, where we will work upon children’s mental maths skills. This will run 10 minutes every day to enhance fluency in number and times tables.

One of the displays in our Year 3 classroom showcases special pieces of work that children will have completed throughout the week showing effort, determination and excellence. This display is to inspire children to work hard and consistently; to work through challenges they may face. It is important that children are proud of their learning and have the chance to display this for everyone to see. Children will have the opportunity to present their learning and progress in any area of the curriculum.

Please make sure that your child brings in the correct PE uniform with clearly named labels. Please be aware that plimsolls are required for indoor PE and white trainers for outside games. Both must be present in school. Earrings must be removed for PE. Boys’ kippot must be clearly labelled to prevent loss.

I look forward to what will be a fantastic year ahead in Year 3.
