Hello and welcome to Year 3!

Year 3

Hello and welcome to Year 3!

My name is Miss Cramer and I have been given the great honour of being assigned your child’s class teacher for the year. In our team, is Miss Coren, our Jewish Studies teacher, Mrs Greene, our Ivrit teacher, Mrs Greenfield, our Music teacher and Mrs Cohen and Mrs Rinkoff, our Teaching Assistants.

What an exciting year we have planned for your child and we look forward to showing you our super learning throughout the year! In Year 3, the children really start to develop their independence and partnership skills both inside and outside the classroom. Entering Key Stage 2, your child will start to expand their knowledge and understanding through creative learning. At Etz Chaim, we pride ourselves in delivering an exciting and rich curriculum and therefore we encourage the children to question, explore and participate in a range of inspiring topics. As the children progress in their learning, they will also learn to work collaboratively with their peers where they are expected to show mutual respect for everyone in the classroom.

Throughout the year, the children will become more independent readers, writers, mathematicians and investigators. To ensure this process happens, the children are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning. The walls and displays around the classroom will be showcased with up-to-date topics we are learning about.

In Year 3, it is important children read regularly both in school and at home. Children should be reading on their own, reading out loud to an adult or shared reading with an adult daily for 5-10 minutes. Each week, the children will have an allocated session to visit our fantastically resourced library. Here the children can collect new reading books or return/renew a book from the previous week. When your child has read to an adult at home, please ensure their reading diary has been signed and dated. In addition to independent reading, the children will participate in a weekly guided reading group. In these sessions, the children will look at different genres of text, make inferences about what they have read and discuss these ideas with the group and the teacher.

We also have daily guided Maths lessons where the children will continue to advance their numeracy skills through Magical Maths, TT RockStars and a selection of interactive resources. The children are encouraged to explain their understanding using effective terminology.

Please make sure your child brings in the correct PE uniform, with clearly named labels, on the assigned PE days. Plimsolls are required for indoor PE whilst white trainers are needed for outside PE and games (both must be present in school). Children’s earrings must be removed prior to the PE session and the boys’ tzitzits and kippot should be visibly labelled to prevent them getting lost.

We all look forward to an exciting and stimulating year ahead!
