Hello and welcome to Year 4!
Hello and a warm welcome to Year 4! My name is Mrs Levy and I will be your child’s class teacher this year. In our Year 4 team, is Mrs Braham, our Jewish Studies teacher, Mrs Greene, our Ivrit teacher, Mrs Greenfield, our Music teacher and Mrs Taylor and Miss Joseph, our Teaching Assistants.
Year 4 will be an exciting year for us all as the children will continue their learning journey through an integrated and creative curriculum. Through our topics, the children will be able to investigate, explore and discover as they engage in a variety of practical experiences and tasks, working both independently and collaboratively. They will be encouraged to be enquiring, resilient, communicative, thoughtful, cooperative, respectful and adaptable. The children will work on their organisational skills and be expected to have a responsible attitude for their own learning.
Your child will have a weekly guided reading session where we will read a large variety of texts to help develop their comprehension skills. Once your child has finished reading their books they will have two opportunities a week to change them. Please make sure your child reads at home daily for 5-10 minutes and you sign and date your child’s reading record book each time you have read with them. There will be opportunities to visit the fantastic school library to borrow from the wide selection of books. Children will be able to take a book home and either return it or renew it during their next session.
We will be developing the children’s writing skills, focusing on making appropriate choices of vocabulary and how using different types of sentences creates different effects for the reader. We will also be developing legible consistently joined handwriting.
The children will develop their mathematical skills encompassing number and calculations, mental recall, problem solving, geometry and measuring.
Please make sure your child brings in the correct PE uniform, clearly named. Please be reminded that plimsolls are required for indoor PE and white trainers are for outside games. Earrings must be removed at home ready for a PE day. If ears have just been pierced, plasters should be provided for your child to cover them. Homework will be given and it is expected it will be completed and returned on time.
We are very excited to be taking part in a project where we are twinned with a school in Ghana and will be exchanging information about life at our schools.
We look forward to a fabulous year ahead in Year 4!
