Hello and welcome to Year 4!
Hello and welcome to Year 4! Our names are Mrs Osborne and Mrs Hyman and we will be your child’s class teachers. As part of the team working closely with us, there is Miss Feiner, our Jewish Studies teacher, Mrs Greene, our Ivrit teacher, Mrs Greenfield, our music teacher, Mrs Cohen, our Teaching Assistant and Mrs Braham, our PPA cover teacher.
Year 4 will be an exciting year for us all as the children will continue to develop their learning through an integrated and creative curriculum. Through our topics, the children will be able to investigate, explore and discover as they engage in a variety of practical experiences and tasks, working both independently and collaboratively. They will be encouraged to be enquiring, resilient, communicative, thoughtful, cooperative, respectful and adaptable.
Your child will have a weekly guided reading session where we will read a large variety of texts to help develop their comprehension skills. Once your child has finished reading their books they will have two opportunities a week to change them. Please make sure you sign and date your child’s reading record book each time you have read with them. We will also be able to visit the fantastic school library to borrow from the wide selection of books. They will be able to take a book home and either return it or renew it during their next session.
We will be developing the children’s writing skills, focusing on making appropriate choices of vocabulary and how using different types of sentences creates different effects for the reader. We will also be developing legible consistently joined handwriting.
As well as our guided Maths sessions, children will be practising their mental skills during our Magical Maths Moments for 10 minutes each day.
Please make sure your child brings in the correct PE uniform with clearly named labels. Please be reminded that plimsolls are for indoor PE and white trainers are for outside games. Both should be brought into school. Earrings must be removed for PE sessions.
Year 4 will have a pivotal role in the Healthy Schools accreditation and will be encouraging the whole school to make healthy, varied choices at lunch times.
We will be electing Digital Leaders who will be responsible for encouraging safe use of technology around the school.
We are very excited to be taking part in a project where we are twinned with a school in Ghana and will be exchanging information about life at our schools.
We look forward to a great year ahead in Year 4!
