Hello and welcome to Year 5!
My name is Miss Shemtob and I will be your child’s class teacher alongside Ms Pieters who will be teaching Jewish Studies. As part of our team we will be working closely with Mrs Meyer, our Ivrit Teacher.
Throughout the year, we will be supporting the children in their academic journey through a range of different exciting topics. Through these topics, we will be tackling a range of different novels and writing for different purposes, in order to encourage the children to become confident in expanding their vocabulary, analysing text and creating their own exciting narratives. In Mathematics, we will be strengthening the children understanding of place value, operations, geometric patterns and measurements. We will be applying their understanding to a range of different problem solving scenarios to help prepare them for real-life situations. In Jewish Studies, we will be sharpening and deepening their knowledge and understanding of Chagim and their Chumash skills. The children will have the opportunity to visit the school’s library every Tuesday, will have PE lessons every Monday and Tuesday.
Our first topic this school year is ‘Being Human’ where the children will be learning about the anatomy of what defines a human both physically, morally and mentally. We have some exciting lessons planned and cannot wait to teach them and hear all about your child’s interests, hobbies and what makes them unique.
Throughout the year, we have some very exciting trips planned to help enhance their learning, alongside a residential Shabbaton.
We are looking forward to having a brilliant year!
