Hello and welcome to Year 5!
Hello and welcome to Year 5’s learning journey. Mrs Levy is the Year 5 class teacher. Supporting the children is Mrs Taylor. Mrs Braham is the Jewish Studies teacher and covers the class in PPA time. Ivrit is taught by Mrs Greene.
In Year 5, the children will become independent learners and reflective thinkers. They will work on their organisational skills and be expected to take responsibility for their own learning. This year the children will continue to develop their mathematical skills encompassing number and calculations, problem solving, geometry and measuring. They will continue to learn spelling strategies to support their writing and will be expected to learn the next list of high frequency words. They will be encouraged to explore reading through different genres and a variety of authors whilst having opportunities for the children to participate in discussions, role play, improvisations and dilemmas. The children will learn about Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Chanukah in more depth and will continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of the Chaggim. This year the children will be given their own diary to take ownership of their home learning and dates to remember.
The children will have library sessions on Tuesdays and PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The term will kick off with ‘It’s a Jolly Holiday’ where the children will research different places people visit in the world and learn about different aspects of London.
The children can’t wait to take a trip to London and go on a residential Shabbaton!
They are really looking forward to being the first ever Year 5 at Etz Chaim!
