Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

Year 3 and 4 Sculpture Workshop

Year 3 and 4 enjoyed celebrating ‘Shakespeare Lives in Schools Day’ with a visit from Jill Berelowitz who came in to talk about her sculpture "Mind's-eye Tree" that was installed in New Place in Stratford to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. She told the children about the process of creating the sculpture and how itwas installed. She also talked about how it represents
Shakespeare's life force. The children had the opportunity to look closely at a maquette (small model) of the sculpture and a range of smaller objects based on the sculpture.

Year 4 also enjoyed learning about Shakespeare through a range of activities including: researching Shakespeare's life; putting Shakespeare on a timeline with other significant people we have learnt about; researching words that Shakespeare introduced into the English language and predicting the plots of some of Shakespeare's plays from different images.
