Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

Science Week 2018

Science Week started with ‘Wow Experiments’ scattered around the school. Children could sign up beforehand for the experiment they wanted to see.

Classes then investigated forces, floating and sinking and waterproof materials. In groups the children made boats using their chosen materials.  Once tested in the classroom, each class brought their winning boat to the School Competition. Using a trough of water and pebbles to weigh down the boats we found the best floaters. It was evident that the shape of the boats had a major influence in whether the boats floated or sank.

Children will be working at home on various science investigations, recording them in different ways.  A  Science Fair is planned in April where children’s work will be displayed.

A ‘Science Squad’ is being introduced this month. Children from Year Four to Six will form a group to support science learning at Etz Chaim.
