Science Week 2019

Science Week started with ‘Wow Experiments’ scattered around the school. Children could sign up beforehand for the experiment they wanted to see. It was fun having children from the Nursery right up to Year 6 enjoying the same experiments and seeing the older children support the younger ones with their learning.

Classes then investigated forces, air resistance and materials for insulation by participating in the ‘Egg Drop Challenge’.  The children worked in class teams to drop an egg from a height in various packages which would hopefully be designed to prevent the egg breaking. The winning teams went on to the next challenge where this time they could only use specific items given to them. They needed to think of the best way to use these items to absorb the shock of the egg drop. Prizes were given to the winning teams!

Other scientific investigations linked to the year group topics also took place in classrooms this week.

‘Hunt the Scientist’ was enjoyed by the children in KS2. Scientists and facts about them were hidden all over the school for the children to find and complete their worksheet. They then had an opportunity for independent research on another group of scientists.

The ‘Science Squad’ competition was The Science Week ‘Bake Off’! Children had to use food to represent the human body or body parts – and bring in the photo for them to judge. There were great Science prizes!
