Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

 Reception

Hello and welcome to Reception!

My name is Mr Prince and I am looking forward to teaching at Etz Chaim. I will also be teaching closely with Mrs Talisman, our Jewish Studies Teacher and Mrs Meyer, our Ivrit Teacher.

We will be supporting and encouraging your children to learn through play in the supportive and safe environment of the Reception classroom and Foundation Stage outdoor area. We will be getting to know the children on a 1-1 basis in order to bring their interests into the setting, ensuring all children are at the centre of their learning. The children will be encouraged to learn through play in both the indoor and outdoor environments. They will be free to make this choice as it is a free-flow classroom. Observations will be carried out regularly by the Foundation Stage Practitioners to develop meaningful activities to help the children reach their potential.

The children will begin to learn their phonics through the Read Write Inc. scheme and using the activities in the classroom to consolidate this knowledge. The children will be developing their mathematical skills in number, problem solving, shape, and space and measuring. The children will be learning through the activities and provisions in the classroom.

Mrs Talisman is looking forward to teaching Jewish Studies this year. The children will be learning all about the Chagim and Jewish life. They will also be working their way through the Aleph Bet, which will lead to our fabulous Aleph Bet party at the end of the year.

To support your child in school, please may we ask that you provide one box of tissues, 5 medium glue sticks, (only 43g white Pritt Stick, no other make), a pack of coloured pencils and felt tips. The children also need a non-uniform cap to keep in school and for the boys, a spare named school kippa, also to be kept in school. These should be brought into school on the first day of term. These items do not need to be labelled, as most items in Foundation Stage are shared. Please can you also bring a named pair of wellies to keep at school.

Just a gentle reminder to label your child's uniform including their hat, coat, shoes and kippot. The children will also need a full PE kit in the school's drawstring PE bag which must also be labelled. The children will visit the school library twice a week where they can borrow books and develop a love of reading.

I look forward to look forward to welcoming you and your child to Reception on Thursday 5th September and meeting you at the Meet The Teacher evening on 11th September.
