Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

Hello and welcome to Year 3!

Year 3

My name is Miss Shemtob and I will be your child’s class teacher alongside Rabbi Herman who will be teaching Jewish Studies, to help with the Recovery Curriculum and deliver the theme of 'Achdut' - togetherness. As part of our team we will be working closely with Mrs Meyer, our Ivrit Teacher. Your children will be supported by our lovely teaching assistant Mrs Woolf.

We are all very enthusiastic about creating a positive learning environment which will hopefully help your children become more independent and able to develop and apply their knowledge in the new Key Stage.

Your children will have a chance to work collaboratively, build their leadership skills and continue to become more independent both inside and outside the classroom through our integrated curriculum. We aim to build on your children’s investigation, discovery and exploration skills through enquiry based and practical tasks which will allow them to make their own links between subjects and learning. Our display boards and walls will be filled with these exciting topic learning.

The children will have already learnt and understood our ‘I am Loving and Capable’ (IALAC) rules. This year, we will aim to strongly cement these into our classroom so that children will form a mutual respect, a kind and caring bond with all of their class mates. These rules will constantly be revisited.

Reading will also be a core focus and our reading corner in the classroom will hopefully be a place where children feel they can broaden their vocabulary and make links between what they have been learning and the books they are reading. The children will be fortunate enough to take out and renew books from our brilliantly resourced library and there will also be an opportunity for an adult to hear them read daily. It is important that children continue and build their passion for reading at home.

As a school, we are also lucky enough to have access to a wide range of Maths resources which will help children to advance and develop their numeracy skills. They will have the chance to access and use a variety of different interactive and computer based Maths games to assist their learning. Our Maths display will encourage children to use Maths terminology to reason and effectively problem solve.

We are all looking forward to a fantastic year ahead in Year 3!
