Hello and welcome to Year 4!
My name is Miss Rich and I, alongside our JS Mrs Braham, our Ivrit teacher Ms Meyer and our teaching assistants Mrs Boyask and Mrs Sussman, are looking forward to teaching your children and to help with the Recovery Curriculum, delivering the theme of 'Achdut' - togetherness.
The children will continue their learning journey through an integrated and creative curriculum. Through our topics, the children will be able to investigate, explore and discover as they engage in a variety of practical experiences and challenges, working both independently and collaboratively. They will be encouraged to be enquiring, resilient, communicative, thoughtful, cooperative, respectful and adaptable. The children will work on their organisational skills and be expected to have a responsible attitude for their own learning.
Your child will have a weekly guided reading session where we will read a large variety of texts to help develop comprehension skills. In addition, do please make sure your child reads at home daily for 5-10 minutes. Please sign and date your child’s reading record book each time you have read with him or her. There will be opportunities to visit the fantastic school library to borrow from the wide selection of books. Children will be able to take a book home and either return it or renew it during their next session.
We will be supporting the children to develop their writing skills, focusing on making appropriate choices of vocabulary and exploring how different sentence types can have a different impact for the reader. We will also be developing legible, consistently joined handwriting.
The children will build on their mathematical skills encompassing number and calculations, mental recall, problem solving, geometry and time . . . and lots more besides in an action-filled programme!
We are also very excited to be taking part in a project where we are twinned with a school in Ghana and will be exchanging information about life at our schools.
Please make sure your child brings in the correct PE uniform, clearly named. Please be reminded that plimsolls are required for indoor PE and white trainers are for outside games. Earrings must be removed at home ready for a PE day. If ears have just been pierced, plasters should be provided for your child to cover them.
We look forward to a fabulous year ahead in Year 4!
