Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

Hello and welcome to Year 1!

Year 1

My name is Miss Roberts and I will be your child’s class teacher this year. In our Year 1 team, is Mrs Talisman, our Jewish Studies teacher, Mrs Meyer, our Ivrit teacher,  Miss Johnston will be the Year 1 Teaching Assistants.

The children will be beginning their journey into Key Stage One and will experience more challenging learning opportunities. I’m sure they will adjust with time, but we will of course take things slowly over the next few weeks to get the children into their new routine.

The children will continue to develop their phonic knowledge through the Read Write Inc scheme and will be reading and writing for a range of purposes. The children will gain first-hand experience to support them with their writing.  They will be developing their mathematical skills in number and calculations, problem solving, shape and measuring.  The children will be given lots of hands on, practical opportunities to consolidate as well as develop their learning.

In all areas of the curriculum, the children will experience a wide range of creative and challenging opportunities to develop their skills as Writers, Mathematicians, Scientists, Artists, Historians, Geographers, Musicians, and so much more!

The children will have two opportunities to change their reading book, but our aim is to build a love of reading and an understanding of the stories so we would prefer the children not to rush through their books. They will also have two opportunities to visit our school library each week and borrow a book to take home!

Mrs Talisman is looking forward to teaching Jewish Studies this year. The children will be learning all about the Chagim and Jewish living topics. We will also be working through the Aleph Champ Scheme.

Please ensure that all items of clothing, including shoes and kippot, are clearly labelled. This will help your child to become increasingly responsible for their own belongings.  It will also help during P.E. lessons, when items can easily get misplaced.

We are going to have an amazing year and look forward to sharing this with you!
