Come and see Year 1's highlights from 2014-2015!

The children also  enjoyed visiting Mill Hill Library where they completed a treasure hunt to find different types of books!

The children thoroughly enjoyed their circus workshop where they balanced peacock feather on their fingers, spun plates on sticks, juggled and learnt how to move on pedals.

They accurately measured the temperature of water during our investigation of turning a liquid into a solid using a thermometer.

They have continued to develop our understanding of beat and pitch in our Dacapo sessions which they thoroughly enjoy and are learning to read and write musical notes.

Year 1 became storytellers! They used story parcels as inspiration for creating their own imaginative stories and making them into books to share and enjoy with their friends as part of National Storytelling Week.

The children were very exciting visiting the library for the first time.

They enjoyed role-play crossing the road on a zebra crossing and dressed up as some of the people who help us keep safe.

In the Maths area, Year 1 have been sorting different coins according to their values.

Year 1 have really enjoyed our Table Top sessions. One of the reading activities have been matching captions to pictures.

As part of our Our World Topic Year 1 went to Mill Hill Broadway and completed a survey about the different types of shops. They made a tally chart with clothes shops, restaurants and other types of shops. They also counted different types of vehicles and sketched the new block of flats.

Year 1 have been preparing to receive our new Siddurim as part of a special presentation to our parents. They all become real Siddur Superheroes by following the steps needed and loved performing their songs with meaning.

Year 1 loved pond dipping and looking closely to identify the creatures living in the pond. They were surprised to see so many different animals living in one habitat and particularly enjoyed watching the pond skaters rest on top of the water just like their paperclip had done earlier in the day!

As part of our topic; Holidays, they designed a souvenir and made it using clay. They pinched, pulled and twisted the clay to sculpt the shape and then used different tools to add detail.

Inspired by their topic and book, the children have all been on their own bus adventure to Golders Hill Park. During the journey, the children carefully counted the number of times the bus stopped to create a tally chart showing the number of bus stops.

Bumble the Maths clown helped the children make brilliant mistakes and learn from them during our Maths Workshop about 3D shapes and measurement. They compared giant shapes to help us understand volume, used metre long balloons for measurement and some of the class were even put inside a giant balloon!

They loved watching the flame change colour when different chemical were added during the Science Workshop!

In P.E Year 1 have all joined the circus! They discussed the skills needed and practised these in preparation for their final circus performance to Year 2 complete with jugglers, tightrope walkers, acrobats and ringmasters!

They started the term focusing on their new playground; designing and making models and creating their own non-fiction leaflets to share information about playgrounds with others.

As part of our Greenfingers topic, the children have created herb heads; planning the investigation and making predictions as to where they will grow best. They have also explored various herbs and used their senses to describe them and become plants themselves which has supported them in understanding the life cycle.

The children enjoyed performing at the library launch!

Year 1 loved Book Week and having fun bringing books to life! Their visit from Andrew Weale was exciting as they had heard lots of his stories and added our own twist to one of his books; Nora by describing objects they wanted her to eat.

During their trip to the Welsh Harp, they collected natural objects such as twigs, flowers and leaves to create beautiful butterflies.

At the park, the children were excellent at finding physical and human resources and thought carefully about whether each had been man-made or were natural.

For Science Week we helped Zog return home by creating an experiment to test the quickest way to melt the blocks of ice for us to retrieve his keys!

Year 1 have been very creative in Jewish Studies in preparation for Purim; creating bright clown masks and mishloach manot by weaving.

More recently, Year 1's focus has been on Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have created freeze frames to retell the story and even gone on an adventure into a deep, dark cave!

Year 1 all enjoyed scanning out their first library book.

Year 1 practised crossing Daws Lane with their teachers.

They put different amounts in order starting with the smallest to the largest.

In Maths Year 1 have been busy problem solving. It was really tricky using the numbers on dominoes to make 5. They had to decide where to put the sixes.

Year 1 created different body shapes in PE. These are wide shapes. They also made narrow shapes, tall shapes and small tight shapes.

Year 1 went to the park to look closely at the trees. They made detailed sketches of a particular tree.
