Chinese New Year Celebrations

The children at Etz Chaim thoroughly enjoyed their Chinese New Year workshop where they learnt that this year  2016 is the year of the monkey and the Chinese national colour is red which is a lucky colour for Chinese people.  During the Chinese New Year it is a tradition to give and receive gold coins and to eat fortune cookies.  The children learnt three different movements that they undergo during the celebration of the New Year. The first movement was reaching to the sky, second making a rainbow shaped movement and finally a lightning pattern coming from the sky.  The children all thoroughly enjoyed practising these movements and performing them to the class.  Lots of fun was had by all.

Year 4 celebrated Chinese New Year with the children doing some basic movements from a Chinese Fan Dance in Physical.  They improved their fine motor skills by passing a bead to each other using only chopsticks!  They also wrote good luck messages and placed them into hand sewn fortune cookies.
