Year 5 Cycle Training

Year 5 were offered a wonderful opportunity of free Bikeability Training at Level 2 to the children in Year 5 who carried out the level 1 training last academic year. This training took place during the week of the 8th May 2017.  This safe, structured and standardised programme was designed to make the children more competent cyclists and prepared them for cycling on road.  This programme recapped on level 1 on day one in the school playground and then moved onto quiet local roads in small groups otowards the end of the week.  The training delivered valuable life skills for cycling safely and also an all-round sense of road safety.
The training was carried out by Cycle Confident, Barnet’s cycle training provider and was delivered by two fully accredited National Standards cycling instructors with enhanced DBS checks.  The instructors showed the children how to check their bikes at the start of the first session and ensured that each child’s bike was safe for training purposes.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop.  Here are some quotes from the children before and afternoon the training.

Before the training:
"I was not confident with riding a bike without falling off."
"I didn't feel confident to ride a bike on the road."
"I felt nervous I was going to have an accident on the bike."
"I felt I wasn't able to ride a bike on the road."

After the training:
"I could ride a bike without the fear of falling off."
"I feel I have improved and I am more confident."
"I felt happy I never fell off."
"It was a good experience and I feel proud with what I have achieved."
