Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

Music Day

Last year, our Pupil Questionnaires revealed that the children would like to have a themed Music Day.

In response we held our first Etz Chaim Music Day themed around the "Carnival of the Animals" by Saint Saens.  Throughout the day, each class responded to a section of the piece based around an animal and took part in a Da Capo music lesson also based on their animal. The day culminated in a whole school assembly extravaganza!
Nursery jumped and bounced with their kangaroo pouches.
Reception performed a dance where they roared and prowled like lions.
Year 1 created elephant masks and moved like a chain of elephants.
Year 2 were the Hens and Chickens, they moved and pecked around the barnyard and finally laid an egg!
Year 3 were tortoises, showcasing their art work, poetry and knowledge of tortoise facts.
Year 4 moved like graceful swans, showing their swan art work and their friendship feathers.
Year 5 presented their poetry and research about fossils.
Finally Year 6 demonstrated their response to The Aquarium through dance and artwork accompanied with music they had composed themselves using objects from around their classroom.

It was a fabulous, day where the children worked collaboratively and creatively.

Here are some quotes from the children:

“It was fun.”

“I enjoyed learning about tortoises from the carnival of the animals.”

“I liked all the activities about music around the classroom and performing to the school.”

“I really liked showing everyone my work.”

“It was very enjoyable and at the end of the day I was really excited to show or catwalk to the rest of the school.”

“I enjoyed watching the different years performances of the animals and listening to their ideas.”
