Yom Ha'atzmaut

To celebrate Israel's 70th birthday on Yom Ha'atzmaut, we enjoyed a carousel of activities taking us on a tour around Israel. The children across the school were grouped in mixed age-groups and the older children supported and guided the younger children throughout the day.

We took in the beautiful sandy beaches of Tel Aviv where we created sand sculpture and sand pictures and made kinaetic sand; we painted watercolours to represent the mountains of the North; in the Negev desert we had a Bedouin experience which included building a Bedouin tent in our den-making area and working together to make an Israeli salad; In Yerushaliyim, we experienced a Shuk (market) where we raised money for the Israeli Guide Dogs charity, buying second-hand books, toys and games; We also used sponges to print parts of the Kotel; at the Dead Sea we explored floating and sinking and made salt pictures; We also worked in teams to collect pieces to build up jigsaws of the map of Israel ; We completed our Israel experience with Israeli dancing.

To top off our Israel experience we enjoyed a picnic lunch and a slice of birthday cake.
