Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

Israeli Dance Club

Mrs Levy, together with Miss Feiner, has introduced an Israeli Dance Lunchtime Club to Etz Chaim this year, emphasising respect for our Jewish and Israeli cultural identity. The club is for boys and girls in Years 3 and 4. The children have already learnt many dances and are getting ready to participate in the Children’s Dance Festival in March. The children are really enjoying learning new dances and having fun whilst doing exercise.
The benefits of Israeli dancing are diverse. When the children dance, they are aware of the impact of the movement on their bodies and how regular activity is good for them. They show good body control, have poise and balance, and show fluency and accuracy in their movements. They can apply and adapt a wide range of skills and techniques effectively. They can select and apply skills, tactics and compositional ideas. As the club develops, children will be encouraged to create their own dances to Israeli music, for example a festival song which does not have a dance. The children will evaluate and improve their performance whilst having a knowledge and understanding of fitness and health.
