National Poetry Day 2014

The children thoroughly enjoyed celebrating National Poetry Day with an assembly during which the teachers retold their favourite poems.  This was followed by the children contributing their ideas and performing a whole school poem about a tiger.

Year 1 read 'The Duck in the Truck' by Jez Alborough and looked at the rhyming words for duck, truck; sheep, jeep, goat, boat and frog, bog.  We thought of rhymes for different animals we had seen on the farm like hen in a pen. We couldn't think of a good rhyme for alpaca though!

Year 2 enjoyed listening to their teachers favourite poem 'Please Mrs Bulter' by Allan Ahlberg. They also performed a poem led by their peer.

After enjoying a really interactive assembly preforming poems, Year 3 thought about what animal they would like to be. They wrote poems using words to describe what they would do, what they would look like and what they would sound like!  The children had a lot of fun thinking about onomatopoeia words to describe the sounds of their particular animal.
