Walk to School Month 2014

Wednesday 1st October marked the start of International Walk to School Month.
Each year, primary school pupils from across the UK join forces with children in more than 40 countries worldwide to celebrate the benefits of walking to school for a whole month. We are aiming for the children to walk to school as many times as is possible throughout October.

This International Walk to School Month we are asking parents to share their experience of walking to school and help their children create their own memories. What do you remember? The sense of independence, chatting to friends, jumping in crunchy autumn leaves? We want to see more children walking to school so that they too can have great memories. We are looking forward to sharing your experiences and those of the children on our Walk to School Display. The children have already enjoyed sharing some of their experiences during our Walk to School Assembly.

Here are some reminders of the different ways you can make walking work for you and your family:
For those of you who live too far away to make this possible, there are alternatives such as Park and Stride where you would park a five to ten minute walk away from school and walk the remainder of the journey, or simply getting off the bus one or two stops early and walking the remainder. If you don’t have time to walk due to work commitments, you can buddy up with another parent en route to share the walking.

Walking to school has many benefits, not only is it good for your health and the environment, but it’s also fun and a great opportunity to socialise with your child, so why not try and include a ten minute walk in your journey to school.
