In Year 1 we are learning all about different vegetables. We sampled different salads that used root vegetables in preparation for making our own. They were delicious!

Year 1 were very excited to start the term with snow after learning all about seasonal changes last term. They explored the snow, made models, investigated how long they lasted and made great observations!

In Maths Year 1 learned about 2D and 3D shapes. After naming and describing them we found different ways to sort the shapes.

In Science this week Year 1 investigated the properties of materials. They used torches to investigate if all paper is opaque.

As part of science week, Year 1 had lots of fun investigating which materials are waterproof so they could mend Ted’s shelter and stay warm and dry over the Winter months.

In computing, the children logged into the laptops, opened a word document and typed a short sentence introducing themselves.

In Art this week the children were gradually adding black to blue to create different shades for a nighttime scene. They will add to their scenes tomorrow.

In English the children have been learning about the features of recipes. They follwed a recipe to make their own Gingerbread Man and then had fun decorating them.

In Ivrit Year 1 have been playing board games to help them consolidate their learning of all the new sounds they have learned so far.

The children were practising their number formations in the sand using different writing tools as well as their fingers.

In JS Year 1 learned all about how a Torah is made. We created our own model Torah scrolls using kitchen rolls and card.

In Art, the children made sculptures in partners of sukkahs. They thought about what would go inside a sukkah and what materials they could use for the roof.

In English we matched upper with lower case letters. We played lots of different matching games to help us with our learning and have been focusing on how to form our letters correctly.

In Maths the children used manipulatives to count from any number upto 10. They were brilliant at building the number in their tens frames and counting on from that number.

In Science this week Year 1 went on a walk to discover and explore signs of Autumn. We discussed how the weather changes and how things we see might look different.

In Maths this week the children learnt the days of the week. After learning a song, we sorted the days of the week in order.

In Maths we were number line detectives! We placed our digit cards in a number line and turned them upside down. We then had to use our number skills to work out which digit our friend had taken from the line!

In DT this week, Year 1 were introduced to their new topic Sensational Salads! They learned about where our food comes from and played a game of guessing the vegetable in the feely bag. They then learned if the vegetable is ground under the ground or over the ground.

In English, Year 1 read a description of a setting. We drew a picture of the scene we imagined and then wrote captions for the scene described using adjectives.

In Art, Year 1 mixed their own colours to create a Kandinsky inspired piece of artwork. They discussed what shapes they could see to link it to their maths learning and how the different colours made them feel.

In Maths, Year 1 matched number sentences with First, then, now stories before moving on to using the stories to write their own number sentences. They also created their own stories.

In Art, the children did Jackson Pollock inspired drip paintings. They mixed different shades of colours and worked in groups to create different patterns on their canvas.

In Maths the children were introduced to rekenreks. They used them to help solve addition problems.

In Kabbalat Shabbat the children took turns to bless each other. They learned the brachah to say each Friday night.

In Maths the children were introduced to the part-whole model. They used it to find all the different ways to make different number bonds within 10.

In Geography this week the children were looking at maps. They played a game to match the symbols they might see on a map to their meanings.

In Maths the children were learning to use the vocabulary fewer, more and the same. They played games with dominoes to sort numbers.

In Maths the children matched representations of numbers with digits and numbers as words. They also made their own representations of numbers.

In Geography, Year 1 drew their own maps of our school playground. We talked about using a key and also found our school on a map of the area.

In Science the children continued learning about the changes that occur between Autumn and Winter. They thought about how animals adapt to changes in weather and drew animals that hibernate and migrate.

In PE the children played a game to warm up where they scored points by being the first to land on a blue dot before working on different movement skills.

In Art we started our topic on sculpture. We looked at various sculptures and discussed how they made us feel and how we thought they were made before sketching one.
