Year 2

Welcome to our Headline of the week. This will give you a small taster of some of the learning taking place in your child’s class.

In Maths Year 2 have been looking at maths statements and in pairs they have been working out whether a statement is true or not using their knowledge of odd and even numbers.

In History Year 2 have been looking at the significant explorer Felicity Aston and her achievements.

In English Year 2 have created their own stories based on our topic story the Great Explorer.

In PSHE the children have been looking how to be kind to one another and doing the right thing. The children looked at different scenarios and presented to the class how they would act in the different scenarios.

In D and T Year 2 have started a new topic looking at different dips and what the taste and texture are like.

In Geography we have recently been looking at islands surrounding Britain. This week the children had a go at creating their own islands making sure to include information on how the people go to school and receive food from the mainland.

In Maths the children have been looking at capacity and volume. In one of our lessons the children were able to demonstrate different volumes in a variety of measuring cylinders.

In Year 2 Art we have been looking at sea shells and using our sea shell display in the classroom we tried to draw all the different ones we could see.

In Geography we have been looking at physical and human features at the seaside.

In English we have started a new book, Bog Baby and the children created mind maps showing their predications of what the story might be about.

On Monday, Year 2 were allowed to bring in their own games to play as they reached 2000 dojos. They really enjoyed playing all the different games.

In History the children learnt about remembrance and they designed their own peace sign as well as thinking about things they were grateful for.

Year 2 have been continuing learning about seeds and how they grow. They looked at the different parts of a seed and labelled it.

Year 2 were excited to plant their own plants this week and take them home to see if they can grow runner beans.

The children in Year 2 are continuing their Lowry pictures. This week they drew matchstick people to add to their collages.

The Children in Year 2 enjoyed a road safety theatre workshop with Ollie learning all about the Green Cross Code.

In Year 2 we have been looking at diversity. The children were given potatoes and asked to create an identity for their potato, highlighting their similarities and differences.

This week in Geography, the children have been looking at different climates and what animals live where.

This week in art year 2 have been looking at patterns. Using different types of beans, the children designed their own pictures concentrating colours and shapes.

Year 2 have been working hard practising their adding and subtracting of two digit numbers.

Year 2 are learning all about bees and how they make honey, they tried lots of different honey.

In Geography we are learning about the world, we have been using atlases to look at the different continents.

In English Year 2 have been looking at emotions and how a character’s emotions can change throughout a story. The children acted out these emotions in groups

In English Year 2 have been looking at the features of a persuasive letter.

In PSHE Year 2 looked at stereotypes and we learnt that boys and girls can like different things and not all boys or all girls have to like the same things. It is ok to be different.

In Computing this week Year 2 have been looking at PowerPoint and learning different skills in order to make their own presentation.

In English we have started a new book the Great Explorer and the children made predictions about what would happen in the book.

In English this week Year 2 have finished creating their own stories based on this half term story Bog Baby. The children had fun creating their own creatures and improving their story telling skills.

In Science Year 2 have been looking at different habitats. In groups the children researched different habitats looking for facts and information which they presented to the rest of the class.

In Maths we have started Mass and Weight this week and as a class we took turns weighing different items and making predications which one is heavier and which one is lighter.

In D and T, Year 2 have been making bunting, they have really enjoyed sewing as well as decorating their material.

Year 2 have been continuing learning about seeds and how they grow. Year 2’s Seed finally started to grow. We observed all the different plants that we planted to see which one was the healthiest.
