Welcome to our Headline of the week. This will give you a small taster of some of the learning taking place in your child’s class.

23/05/25. The class have enjoyed beginning to learn the ukulele, understanding that there are different parts to the ukulele, how to hold it and how to play C Major.

Year 3 took part in a debate, discussing the positives and negatives of logging in the rainforest.

The children have been learning to code using turtle academy and were excited to be able to create a star!

The children have been drawing insects in art, understanding that they have 3 main body parts and 6 legs.

The children enjoyed their first Geography lesson, using atlases to find rainforests around the world.

In Science, the children learnt about how shadows are formed and investigated how they might change if you move the light closer or further away.

In Maths this week, the children used weighing scales and balancing scales to find the mass of various items in grams and kilograms.

In Science, the class have been learning about mirrors and how the light reflects from the flat surface. They took part in some investigations about mirrors, including learning how to do mirror writing!

In Maths, the children have been learning about fractions. They were able to compare unit and non-unit fractions.

In Science, the class learnt that we need light to see. They tried to identify what was in the bag without looking at the object.

In Maths, the children have been mearing length and height. They used rulers to measure each other

In Science, the children consolidated their learning about magnets by creating their own magnetic games

In Science, the children learnt about the North and South magnetic poles. They then looked for North using a compass.

In computing, the children learnt about submarine cables that are lying across the seabed. They were able to investigate the different submarine cables.

Another fantastic Science lesson this week, where the children were able to investigate the magnetism of various objects around the room.

In Science, the children learnt about friction by rolling a toy car down slopes covered in various materials.

In Geography, the children began their learning about the UK. They used an atlas to find the capital cities of each country of the UK.

The children have been learning about multiples of various numbers. This week, they focused on counting in 3s.

The class enjoyed learning about Stonehenge and making their own mini models.

The children took part in an Art activity this week called ‘Autumn Floor Drawings’. This was a practise exercise, learning to draw from observation without taking their pen off the paper.

The class learnt how to create a continuous line drawing, drawing pinecones using one continuous line.

The children enjoyed their Art topic ‘Autumn’ by collecting and exploring the nature area. They created their own natural pieces and were amazing with the patterns they could spot around them.

The class loved their library slot this week, arranging the chairs to create a comfortable reading area in the corner of the library.

The children discussed advantages and disadvantages of living near a volcano, considering whether they would like to live there or not.

The children learnt about different types of skeletons in Science this week. They sorted animal x-rays into vertebrates and invertebrates.

The class enjoyed looking at food labels in our Science lesson this week. They learnt about the traffic light system and were shocked to see that whole wheat pasta was healthier than blueberries!

23/05/25. In English, the children have been writing a persuasive letter to Sir Keir Starmer about deforestation. They worked together to edit their letter to make it as persuasive as they could.

 

16/05/25 

The children have begun learning about time in Maths. They all made their own clocks to help them with their learning.

The class have been learning about money this week in Maths. They used pretend and real coins to understand the value of the coins, adding them and subtracting them.

Year 3 have enjoyed finding the rainforests on a world map and understanding that they are found near the equator.

In computing, the class began learning to code using www.turtleacademy.com and were very excited when they were able to make the turtle move!

The class have started learning about capacity and volume. They were able to match the amount of water to the volume in each container.

The children enjoyed their DT lesson this week, making pesto from scratch!

The children have enjoyed learning about the hieroglyphic language in their History lessons about Ancient Egypt and used their new skills to write their names in a cartouche.

The children were thrilled to have reached 8000 dojos as a whole class. They chose to bring in their own toys as a reward.

Our new DT unit is called Edible Garden and we began the topic by taste testing different herbs – most children liked the parsley but couldn’t stand the rosemary!

Our English lesson was fun this week – learning about similes and metaphors. Some of them were quite funny!

The class learnt about millimetres, centimetres and metres this week, measuring items around the classroom.

The children enjoyed Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, playing bingo to find out even more information about each other.

The class played a game in Heads Up Kids where they had to work as a team to ensure only certain body parts were touching the floor.

The children used their Heads Up Kids session this week to explain how their emotions could become overwhelming and different skills they could use to make the emotions more manageable.

The class have started learning about British artist and illustrator Sir Quentin Blake. They created copies of his famous pieces in their sketchbooks.

The children were thrilled to be able to use a laptop this week to learn how to safely use the internet.

In English, the children wrote their own setting descriptions for a new scene in Greogry Cool.

The children learnt about the permeability of soil this week, experimenting with a variety of soils and how much water will pass through them.

Year 3 have been researching information about Tobago in order to write a non-chronological report. They were interested to find out that karaoke was invented in Tobago.

The children have been learning about myths for Black History Month, understanding how detrimental cultural and racial myths can be. They looked through statements about different people and decided whether they were true or false.

The class have been finding out different ways to represent 3-digit numbers. They could use dienes or place value counters, as well as many other methods.

The class have been reading ‘Gorilla’ and read how Hannah had gone on an adventure with the gorilla. In groups, the children discussed the conversation that Hannah might have had with the gorilla.

In Maths this week, the children were making 2-digit numbers using dienes.
