Our first topic this year is Animals including humans and the children were able to create their own mini moving skeletons.

We are Miss Roberts and Rabbi Herman and we look forward to teaching your children in Year 3.

The children will be beginning Key Stage Two and will be expected to complete a little more work than they are used to. I’m sure they will adjust with time, but we will of course take things slowly over the next few weeks to get the children into their new routine. We have high behaviour expectations which we will encourage are adhered to at all times, with lots of rewards and praise for those following the class rules. A shared, signed set of class rules will be sent home during the first week for you to go over with your child.

We are starting the term with the topic ‘Animals’, during which we will be looking at animals and humans. Over the summer holidays, we would like the children to look out for different animals and think about what they need to survive.

We will be reading and writing for different purposes throughout the year, encouraging children to become confident at spelling, building upon strategies previously taught. Please continue to read with your child and talk about their books over the summer to maintain their love for reading. In Maths, we will continue to develop awareness of number and calculation, as well as shape and measuring. Lessons will be practical and interactive. We hope to develop fluency and a growing confidence to reason mathematically.

We are looking forward to an exciting term in Jewish Studies, with a big focus on Chumash and understanding the story lines. We will also be holding our Chaggigat HaChumash where the children will perform to their families and be presented with their very own Chumash.

We will continue to use a blended learning approach, which includes the use of SeeSaw to set activities and record explanation videos, as well as recording the children’s ideas and responses using photographs, videos, text and voice clips.

Full uniform is a priority in Year 3, so please ensure the girls wear skirts to the knee and their shoulders are fully covered, with a green, black or brown hair bobble and plain, stud earrings. Boys must wear a kippa and tzit tzit every day. Children should bring in their full PE kit on the first day, ensuring that everything is clearly labelled, as well as a non-uniform cap to keep in their tray. To support your child in school, please provide one box of tissues and five medium glue sticks, (only 43g white Pritt Stick, no other make).

Children in Year 3 should bring in two fresh fruit or vegetable snacks each day. Following the advice of medical professionals, we ask that any grapes or fruits and vegetables of a similar shape are cut into quarters as this greatly reduces the risk of choking. Please be assured that your children will always be monitored when eating and will have to remain seated.

We would like to continue building upon the home school relationship established in previous years, as we are fully aware of the vital role that you play as parents in your child’s education. We would therefore ask you to use the Home School Liaison book any time you would like to ask questions, raise concerns or keep in touch.
