Year 1

For their new Science topic on flowers, the children went to the garden area with their sketchbooks to draw what they could see. They spotted lots of different plants and insects.

When it suddenly began to snow in the Spring term, the children brought their sketchbooks outside and drew what they could see.

Year 1 loved all of the activities on twosday - 22.2.22!

The class enjoyed their Da Capo sessions, using the chime bars in time with the music.

The children enjoyed learning about teen numbers and how these are made of ten and some ones.

Year 1 had an amazing trip to Mill Hill Fire Station, where they all had the opportunity to sit inside the fire engine, try on the helmets and chat to the Fire Fighters.

Year 1 had fun learning different gymnastics skills throughout November and December. They were able to set out the apparatus independently and put it all away again.

The class enjoyed an activity where they pretended to be 'Charlie' from their class book and answered questions in the role. 

The children had a great time during 'Chocolate Maths Week', where they practised their one-to-one correspondence, noticing if there were enough chocolates for each of the teddies.

A huge thank you to the Ingram family for donating these amazing teepees - the children are loving playing inside them.

During a very hot Summer's day, Year 1 enjoyed cooling off by soaking their feet in cold water.

The children loved learning how to measure using cubes. Here they are measuring how tall Miss Roberts was!

The class learnt about the different seasons and which month is associated with each season. They put the months in order and discussed the weather that usually occurs in each month.

Year 1 were able to compare the similarities and differences between them and their talk partner, thinking about hair colour and favourite foods.

Before Chanukah, the children were given the opportunity to explore various Chanukiot, giving them ideas for their own Chanukiot.

The children were lucky enough to have milliner Eliane Sarah in to show the children all of her amazing hats. Even Mrs Baron joined in the fun!

The children took part in a 'Senses Hunt', where they investigated the different senses. Here, the children are investigating the sense of hearing.

For Black History Month, Year 1 learnt about Rosa Parks. They imaged they were on a bus and were told the story of how Rosa Parks got in trouble for not giving up her seat for a white man.

During another fantastic PE lesson, the children love using the different equipment. 

Year 1 learnt how the earth moves and how this affects the length of the day - it gets darker earlier in the winter and later in the summer.

During Book Week, Year 1 were lucky enough to be joined by Year 4 who read them their poems.

The children loved using the loose parts to create underwater creatures, like this jellyfish! 

For Safer Internet Day, the children were lucky enough to have a session from Streetwise, where they were introduced to Smartie the Penguin.

Tribe came to visit during Chanukah and gave the children some shields to decorate.

The class explored the different number bonds to 10 using numicon and number cards.

Here is another image from the children's senses hunt. They are testing their sense of taste, with sugar, salt and oats.

Year 1 learnt how to use the claves in one of their Da Capo sessions with Sally, playing along to the beat.
