My name is Miss Luton, and I am very excited to be your child’s class teacher for this academic year. I graduated in 2021 from Middlesex University with a degree in BA Primary Education with Qualified Teachers Status. Throughout my course, I worked at three primary schools, including Etz Chaim, where my love for children and making a positive impact on their futures and learning grew.

 

I am excited to be joined in Year 3 by Rabbi Herman, our Jewish Studies teacher as well as our experienced teaching assistant Mrs Grant.

 

In this upcoming academic year, we will be celebrating Etz Chaim’s 10^th Anniversary. There will be a range of fun activities for your child to participate in, allowing them to delve into the history of the school and explore what community means to them. In addition to this, we will be returning to pre-Covid practices, reinstating the much-missed whole school community feeling,  allowing the children to be with children from the other classes; including sharing break times, participating in whole school assemblies and other whole school celebrations.

 

As the children move into Key Stage 2, they will continue to mature as independent learners in a safe and challenging environment. Our topic for the first half term is ‘Chocolate’ where the children will be exploring the history of chocolate, where cocoa beans come from and who first discovered chocolate. The children will get a chance to write and create advertisements, become researchers, and look at the book ‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’. It would be great to find out what your child already knows in this area. If you already have a copy of this book at home, please send it in with your child in September so they can follow along.

 

We will be reading and writing for different purposes throughout the year, and encouraging children to become confident at spelling, building upon strategies previously taught. Please continue to read with your child and talk about their books over the summer to maintain their love for reading. In Mathematics, we will continue to develop awareness of number and calculation, as well as shape and measuring.  Lessons will be practical and interactive. We hope to develop fluency, a growing confidence to reason mathematically, and the ability to apply maths to solve problems, to conjecture and to test hypotheses.

 

We are looking forward to an exciting term in Jewish Studies. The children will learn about the Chagim through lots of engaging activities. We will also be holding our Chaggigat HaChumash where the children will perform to their families and be presented with their very own Chumash.

 

We will continue to use a blended learning approach, which includes the use of SeeSaw to set activities and record explanation videos, and record the children’s ideas and responses using photographs, videos, text and voice clips.

  

Children in Year 3 should bring in two fresh fruit or vegetable snacks each day. Following the advice of medical professionals, we ask that any grapes or fruits and vegetables of a similar shape are cut into quarters as this greatly reduces the risk of choking. Please be assured that your children will always be monitored when eating and will continue to have to remain seated.
