Come and see Reception's highlights from 2014-2015

Please click here to see a guide to your child’s learning and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage. This booklet has been written to help parents know what to expect during these vitally important years by focusing on the seven areas of learning and development which are covered in the EYFS.

The children have developed their construction skills. They have been building large scale models and are able to describe why they have used a block in a particular place. The children used their class Model Book to help them.

The children have been consolidating their throwing and catching skills this term. They have learnt about underarm throwing and overarm throwing. The children have learnt how to dribble in and out of cones as well as catch and bounce a ball.

They enjoyed cooking new foods for our Yom Ha’atzmaut party and learnt new songs and made humous out of chickpeas and oil!

The children have loved learning their new ball skills with Gary from FA Sports! They have learnt how to control the ball with their feet by kicking and dribbling. They learnt lots of new ball games and skills which they will continue to use in our P.E lessons.

It is great to see that the children are now enjoying reading and writing so much and are gaining self-satisfaction.

The children have been developing their ICT skills alongside their mathematical skills through matching numbers to a fix amount of objects.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed interactive subtraction games and some songs to aid their learning.

Reception have been exploring different textures and made their own green cornflour slime.

The children liked learning how to operate a Bee-Bot correctly, and often use this independently in their mathematical play.

The children have developed independence and are growing in confidence each day. They display this through their creative work and role play throughout the indoor and outdoor environment. I am so proud of how far the children have come.

Reception have perfected baking and can now bake independently. The children have been following their own recipe in cups and baked a number of delicious items, such as baked banana oat cookies, pizza, cupcakes and biscuits. This has helped the children develop their fine motor skills.

To celebrate Book Week the Author Andrew Weale came into school to do an interactive workshop with the children. During this week the children visited the library where they could independently read a selection of books.

Reception have enjoyed learning about mini-beasts. They have been on mini beast hunts, learnt about mini beast habitats and made their very own salt dough mini beasts. A highlight for the children was making their own mini beast houses where the children added food, water and air to keep their mini beasts alive.

A highlight with Maths has been learning about subtraction.

The children thoroughly enjoyed tasting different exotic fruits for Tu BiShvat.

The children have been continuing to work hard on their phonics and it is fantastic to see the progress that they have made throughout this term.
