In the second Summer term Year 2 made delicious cheese cake to celebrate Shavuot; they mixed their own ingredients and were very proud of their results.

In the first half of the Summer term, Year 2 have been looking at constructing food chains, and the relationships between animals.

In the second half of the Spring Term, the children were learning about 3D shapes and exploring their properties.

The children have been working hard to create our model for the Israel 70th project!

In the first half of the Spring term in Maths, the children enjoyed learning about measurements. They looked at what the word ‘equal’ means and represented their understanding using scales. The children explored the difference between grams and kilograms. The children also looked at doubling and halving.

In the second half of the autumn term when it was for Friendship Week, Year 2 made biscuits for our secret friends! They weighed and measured ingredients.

The children are learning about coordinating conjunctions in our guided group with Miss Samuel.

 

The children have been learning all about germs and how these can spread. They created short plays, explaining the effects of taking medicine when they are unwell.

Year 2 had a fantastic PE lesson which focussed on control and coordination when jumping over hurdles.

 

In English, Year 2 wrote a newspaper article about a mysterious beetle vanishing in the park. Prior to this, the children made mind maps which included catchy headlines; adjectives; and the 5 W questions.

In Jewish Studies Year Two had loads of fun planning and designing their own Pesach Afikoman bags a with bright pictures and Hebrew words all about Pesach.

The children used musical instruments to enhance their poetry performances.

In Year 2 a parent come in and teach us sign language. This related to our topic this half term, which was all about communication. The children learned some actions for a song from Beauty and the Beast.

The children in Year 2 designed lovely hand printed tiles to take home to use as Chanukiot. They also stitched colourful doughnut cushions to relax with at home.

They have been locating countries on a world map as part of our topic about celebrations.

 

Year 2 have enjoyed measuring length using a ruler correctly and accurately.

In Maths, the children have been measuring to the nearest centimetre, using a ruler. The children have noticed that it is very important to begin measuring at zero! They measured footprints, and deduced how many people’s footprints there were based off the size!

The children enjoyed a visit from Harriet Muncaster! She spoke about the stories she has written and explained how she came up with her ideas! This influenced us in the classroom when writing our own narratives!

Year 2 had a fantastic visit to the park. In honour of Tu Bishevat, the children sketched trees and made bark rubbings.

In English, the children have focussed upon inference. They have been looking at body language and facial expressions, and what a person or character maybe feeling.

As part of our Music Day, the children created chickens in response to the piece of music shown. They focussed on cutting and joining materials together.

The children in Year 2 designed their very own special Rosh Hashanah cards to take home for their parents. They created mosaics with Rosh Hashanah symbols and blended beautiful shapes together.

 

The children were exploring patterns in number, using Numicon to explain their understanding.
