Book Week 2016

We had an exciting, jammed packed Book Week this year. It all kicked started with a visit from the entertaining author, Gareth P. Jones. He shared some of his experiences of how he gathers ideas for his books as well as entertaining the children with songs inspired by some of his stories. At lunch time, the children enjoyed a more informal question and answer session, followed by our school librarians having the chance to interview him about his work, the stories he has written as well as the stories he loves himself.

The rest of the week saw lots of story telling activities, linked with National Story Telling Week where children used drama and song to tell stories to each other. Parents were invited into school for our Annual Family Reading time, where children enjoyed being read to by their parents or grandparents.

As ever, the Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success raising lots of money for the school. There was certainly a real buzz and excitement for books at the end of each day.

Every child had the opportunity to visit our local library in Mill Hill. They enjoyed being in a public library and seeing just how many books they could borrow!

We also celebrated the children who had completed the Reading Bingo challenge that had been launched in the weeks leading up to Book Week. They were all proud and happy to have received a certificate of their achievement.

Finally, to end the week, Rabbi Bazak and Rabbi Proops shared a story during Oneg Shabbat and Kabbalat shabbat. The children were engrossed with the stories and certainly left wanted to hear more!

What a successful and inspiring week!
