Maths Parent Workshop

The Etz Chaim Maths Parent Workshop was a huge success. Sian Thomas, a maths advisor and Numicon trainer, led a practical session which focused on the way in which we teach Maths.  It provided parents with an insight of how maths is taught at Etz Chaim.  She drew the parents attention to the PVA approach.  This is the practical aspect, visual and then the abstract approach.    Sian also explained to the parents that every child starts with the same question but is taken to different levels of challenge depending on the individual.  She also directed the parents towards the school's Calculation Policy which shows the progression of calculation strategies used throughout the school. 

Towards the end of the workshop each class teacher shared the types of maths which happens in their class and the broad resources which are used to support the children's learning.
