Year 6 at Kingswood

Year 6 had a fantastic time at Kingswood.  Each day was packed full with exciting and challenging activities and the children should be proud of stepping out of their comfort zones, conquering their fears and having a go at everything. We all tried something new and learnt a lot about each other. The teaching staff were so proud of how well the children looked out for each other and how the class worked collaboratively to support each other.

These are the exciting activities the children took part in during their stay at Kingswood:

The 3G Swing
In partners, they were attached to a large metal bar and hoisted up by our classmates. When they were ready, they pulled the cord and they dropped! It was like being on a gigantic swing!

The Trial of Mystery
The children took part in a fake trial in a courtroom! Six of them dressed up as suspects and the rest of the class had to investigate and solve the murder. It was very funny!

Night Line
In the Night Line, they were blindfolded and couldn’t see anything! The children had to work as a team to help each other through the maze and obstacle course. They only had a rope to guide us. It was very enjoyable.

Jacob’s Ladder
This was a giant ladder made of logs which moved. The gaps in the ladder got wider the further up you went. The children used ropes and worked with our partner to help climb higher. They learnt teamwork because they couldn’t have done it without each other.

The Leap of Faith
There was tall pole with a platform at the top. The aim was to climb the pole to get to the platform, jump off and grab the trapeze bar. It was very challenging and the children conquered their fears.

Aerial Runway
This activity was a zip wire! The children climbed the stairs to reach a high platform where they were harnessed and clipped on to a wire. They then stepped off the platform and went soaring through the air!

Camp Fire
The children sat round the camp fire, eating roasted marshmallows and singing fun songs. The fire kept them nice and toasty.

High Equilibrium
In this activity, you climbed up a tall pole to reach a see-saw. When both people got to the top they had to try and make the see-saw balance.

Aeroball
In Aeroball, the children each went into a compartment of a trampoline.  The aim was to get a ball into the hoop in another player’s compartment. It was tricky bouncing and trying to score a goal in the dark!

Orienteering
The children were given a map and locations to find. At the locations they found the clues they needed. It was like a treasure hunt but the map reading was sometimes tricky. The children were proud of finding their way and of all the clues they got.

Archery and Fencing
In Archery the children learnt to shoot with a bow and arrow. It was hard at first to aim but they got better with practise.
Fencing was fun as they learnt to move, defend and attack with a training foil.

Abseiling
In Abseiling, the children climbed the stairs to reach the top of a very tall tower. When they got to the top, they were clipped in and use the control rope to guide ourselves down the wall.

Here are some quotes from the children:

"Our trip to Kingswood has helped me build stronger relationships with my classmates. I have got closer with children that I wasn’t as friendly with."

"I learnt that I can climb really high and I am not afraid to push myself to the top. It was fun to challenge myself! Overall it was amazing, we had the time of our life."

"Before the trip, I felt a bit scared of heights but now I climb with confidence and ease."

"Now I can say that I tried everything and challenged myself, I even caught the bar in The Leap of Faith!"

"The leaders and teachers were so kind and encouraging and made the experience even more amazing. They helped overcome our fears."

"We learnt that even putting on a harness was an achievement. Every new thing we did was an accomplishment."

"One of the day’s challenges was High Equilibrium. Even though, I didn’t make it to the top, I overcame the challenge of overcoming my fears. It was tons of fun! I will never forget the trip of lots of high, well-structured, playful and safe and dangerous at the same time activities. I want to do it all again!"

"Before the trip, I never thought I step foot of the ground, but I did and overcame my fears."

"I learnt to do a lot of new things and I would love to do it all again. I really enjoyed the problem solving activities because worked as a team to solve the problems. The 3G swing was amazing and gave me massive shock when we were released."

"I am so happy with my achievements, including making a bed. I wish I could go back. I learnt that I could climb higher than I ever thought I could."

"It was amazing to discover how nice it feels when your classmates look out for and support you. We were all one big team.  I learnt that caring for someone else makes people feel happy."

"I am very happy that I had a go on the 3G swing and made it to the highest point before I was released."

"The Leap of Faith was fantastic, although it was the ‘lean of faith’ for me as I could reach the bar, so the leap didn’t apply to me!"

"The whole experience taught me that no matter how big or small you are, you can accomplish anything if you believe it."

"I overcame the ‘Leap of Faith’ by believing in myself and trusting the leaders. There was not a dull moment."

"I overcame my fear of heights by climbing high on most of the outdoor activities."

"Before going I had a huge fear of heights. I have now overcome it."

"As I think back to Kingswood I remember I loved every moment; the instructors, the activities, the rooms."

"I had the time on my life!"

"I accomplished the activities with height."

"I have discovered new things about myself and my friends. I never believed I would step off the ground as I climbed the highest point. Kingswood was an unforgettable experience."

"It was the most exciting experience that I have had. The 3D swing was amazing."

"More fun that I have ever had imagined."

"I was so sad to leave Kingswood behind."

"It was a fantastic experience."
