Chocolate Week

The children thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Chocolate Week across the school.  There was a wide range of practical and engaging learning that took place.  In the Foundation Stage some children weighed ingredients to make cakes.  In Key Stage 1 the children enjoyed counting the number of chocolate chips in biscuits whilst making number bonds to 10.  The children looked at chocolate bars, estimated the number of pieces and then counted in 2's and 3's to check their estimation.  They then melted the chocolate for their rice crispy cakes.  They also solved a variety of chocolate word problems in continuous provision.
In Key Stage 2 the children were busy ordering a number of exciting chocolate bars according to their weight.  They also used chocolate bars to solve different maths problems involving money and weight.  In Upper Key Stage 2 the children investigated the temperature of different states of chocolate e.g. frozen, room temperature and warm, melted chocolate with a thermometer.
