Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

Year 5 Jewish Museum

Year 5 had a fascinating outing to the Jewish Museum where they participated in a workshop about migration, which is their topic this half-term, and also a focus on Sukkot. The children had an opportunity to handle authentic artefacts and learn about the lives of Jewish people who lived in the East End following the migration from Russia in the 1880s. They looked at census documents and objects that told them about the daily home and work lives of the migrants. The children also looked at other migrations such as the Windrush and they were able to explain various 'push' and 'pull' factors in each case.
