Science Week

During Science week there were a range of opportunities for the children to delve deep into their topic through investigative work. Each class produced a poster with a written scientific report to explain what they had done for the week. This included pictures, predictions and results tables. Reception even produced a floor book full of their explanations about the Rainbow fish and his shadow. The children enjoyed visiting the science fair to read about what everyone had discovered throughout the week.

The children across the school also learnt about Scientists to do with their topic and wrote biographies explaining their discoveries, inventions and work. The children were able to learn who had discovered what they were learning in class. This was interesting for the children and brought their science to life.

The Science Squad were very busy throughout Science Week too! They were in charge of creating a WOW experiment each morning to share with the rest of the school. This included coke/mentos explosions and magic marker pens. The children were able to explain the science behind their chosen investigations and awe the other year groups with their knowledge and experiments.

The teachers also gave WOW experiments in TableTop. The children were able to see Elephant's Toothpaste, lava lamps, The BFG's Magic Potion and rainbows made from skittles. The further enthused the children to see how amazing Science can be!

The children in Year 5 and 6 also took Science week as an opportunity to further consider their Compass for Life work. They heard from Mr Meyerstone, Mr Solomon and Mrs Lazarus-Kenny about their work in Science and how they got to their Super North Star. This gave the children time to contemplate their own North Star, their options and expose them to a variety of different jobs that they could do within the Scientific field.
