Etz Chaim Jewish Primary School

Opera Workshop March 2017

The children were given an outstanding and very engaging opera workshop from the ‘English Pocket Opera Company’ (EPOC). The opera singers took them through a journey into the world of opera, explaining how an opera is put together in an extremely child friendly way. It was very interactive with the children taking part in the story as the characters in the opera, ‘Orpheus and Euridice’. It was very informative, given in an extremely fun way and the children loved it from beginning to end. As a first operatic experience for most if not all of them it is likely to have a long lasting positive effect. The singers even included the teachers and TA’s in the action which was enjoyed thoroughly by all involved.

Here are some quotes from the children:

‘It was interesting and a fun way to learn’.

‘It was funny and I enjoyed the way we did the story’.

‘It was a really fun way to learn and I really want them to come again’.

‘It was very passionate and fun’.

‘I like how they sung rather than spoke the words’.

Here are some quotes from members of staff:

‘I thought it was absolutely outstanding. It was very engaging and the children were completely entranced!’

‘The children loved being part of the opera story’.

‘Fantastic, engaging, brilliant, amazing’!
